How To Draw Agnes With Prismacolor
So what's an art journal, anyway? An art periodical is simply a place where y'all can empty your brain in a visual manner. It doesn't accept to look "practiced". Yous could brand a whole page of solid blueish, or three pages of little triangles. It'south your brain, and your space to dump information technology out. There are no rules, art teachers, or critics in your fine art journal. Go ahead and throw stuff on the proverbial floor.
And, you're the only person who needs to see information technology. Maybe prove information technology to your true cat, or fish. Or post every page on Facebook if you want. Do any feels right for this point in your creative life.
Why practice I demand to do this?
Exercise you ever go upward from your work and stretch? Or maybe get for a walk when yous're stressed? Art journaling is some other style to stretch, practise, and gratuitous upwards your brain.
Hither's some scientific discipline explained by actual scientists and not me (a humble blogger):
- How art changes your brain
- Overview of current literature regarding fine art & health
- How the arts affect your health
Summary: Scientific discipline seems to concur that making fine art is pretty good for you. Yous tin can use this as a perfectly valid reason to cloister yourself away and make stuff. Because scientific discipline.
What's the deviation between an art periodical and sketchbook?
This answer will exist different for everyone. They may be the verbal same thing for you. Or you lot might alternate between sketching and journaling in the same book. In that location are no rules. 🙂
For me, an art journal is more of a encephalon dump. I'thousand non trying to practice or refine annihilation, and I'm non thinking ahead to a larger piece. I'grand just tossing down whatever my brain wants to in that moment.
In my sketchbook, I am usually trying to hone a skill; like anatomy. Or, I'm sketching for a larger projection. I might sketch the same thing over and over again. I'm focused on my technique if I'thou practicing, and I'thou focused on layout and shapes if it'due south a thumbnail for something bigger.
Does it have to wait a certain manner? I've noticed a particular style is popular in art journals.
If you search "intuitive painting," that fashion is very like to many classic art journal pages. That makes a lot of sense, since we're putting down whatever comes to mind – intuitively.
Maybe you don't like the style of typical intuitive painting. Maybe y'all're more than of a minimalist. Or you might be somewhere in between. Those are all fine, because your art journal doesn't have to wait whatever certain way.
Your pages can be monotone or rainbow. You can utilise a single pen or ten different products and stickers.
What do I demand to start art journaling?
If y'all take any means of making marks, you can art periodical. It can be with scrap paper and a pen. Information technology can be with your finger in a drawing app. You simply need:
- Your brain
- A way to record what's in your brain, visually.
That's really it. But here are some of the tools I use for art journaling:
- Art markers
- Faber-Castell, Copic, Prismacolor
- Republic of india ink pens
- Sakura Micron, Faber-Castell
- Pencils
- Kneaded eraser
- If you have never tried one, I highly recommend
- Strathmore Visual Periodical in 140lb Watercolor
- Canson XL Mix Media pads
- These say they tin take watercolor merely I have non found that to be and then
- Keen for pencil & ink, and dryer paint similar acrylic is okay too
- Tayasui Sketches app for iPhone/Android
Do you lot art journal? Has information technology helped you brand more time for fine art, or helped you call up about something differently?
Feel gratis to share this with someone y'all recollect would do good from an art periodical. 🙂

Here'southward an easy custom t-shirt pick. I dear wearing dress that are perfectly "me", but they can be pretty hard to discover. That's particularly true since I've decided to just shop thrift or sew my own clothes. Notwithstanding, there is plenty of potential in a good ol' white tee. All you really need is a textile marker, and a few household items I retrieve every crafter probably has. 🙂
Like shooting fish in a barrel Custom T-Shirt Supplies:
- Manifestly white tee (or any lite color)
- Cloth marker (whatever fine-tip, permanent 1 will do)
- Plainly newspaper
- Assuming permanent marker
- Ball Point Pins
Step one:
I began by sketching out my pattern. Start in pencil if you similar, but actually you tin go straight in with your bold pen. It doesn't matter if you mess up, only don't trace over that part on your shirt. 🙂 You'll come across I didn't use whatever of the smaller mountain lines in my last design.
Footstep ii:
Lay out your shirt nice and flat. 🙂
Step three:
Next, slide your sketch between the layers. Adjust information technology until you're happy with the placement. Then pivot it in place so it won't move around on you.
Pace 4:
At present trace gently over your sketch using your fabric marker. I institute it easiest to become with the "grain" of the t-shirt (upwards, in my case). Also, I used more of a dotting motion rather than dragging the marker forth the lines. This results in a light image, so definitely go over your piece of work a second time. Then your lines volition be nice and assuming. 🙂
Pace five:
Always oestrus set up your work! Virtually markers come with instructions for estrus setting. Just basically, use the estrus setting called for on your t-shirt's care label. Then, move the atomic number 26 around all over your image for a minute or so. This stride is very important then that your shirt can be washed commonly. Brand certain to go your entire drawing. I also utilize a pressing textile (or, another t-shirt haha) only to actress-avoid scorching anything. 🙂
And yous're all good to go! I have to say I really love how this came out. I wore this shirt to the farmer's market place with some cut-offs, and I may or may non be wearing it every bit I type this. 🙂
Have yous always drawn on your clothes before? If you make something similar, I would love to see it! Tag @ceiltastic on Instagram.
Every bit much as I like to be warm, I'm non a hot-weather condition person (merely check out that, um, "fair" complexion). And so when it gets to a higher place 90, I desire to live in the refrigerator and look upwardly fall desserts, or maybe photos of snowy mountains. Merely some of us like to party in the literal desert. Or the humid woods. So this DIY festival top is with you lot in mind. 🙂
DIY Festival Top Supplies:
- A tshirt or muscle tee, whatsoever size volition work. Mine happened to be a kids shirt. A too-big shirt will work as well.
- Pair of scissors
I know, supply-intensive right? And because this DIY will take yous all of ten minutes, your excuses are evaporating.
Stride i:
First, layout your tee all overnice and apartment.
Stride ii:
Then, if you like, lay a halter peak that fits you over the tee every bit a guide. Or but costless-hand information technology. Either way, trim off the sleeves and make a nice scoop up to the collar. Go through both layers. Merely brand sure y'all leave a solid 1-inch piece at the thinnest point.
Footstep 3:
Side by side, flip your tee over, and make a horizontal cut through the top layer (closest to you) only. Outset where the arm holes end and give it a trivial scoop activeness. 🙂
Footstep four:
Now make the straps that will necktie behind your neck. Cut upward vertically from your back-scoop to the neckband. Meet upward with the cuts you lot fabricated on the front, once again making certain that your strap is at least i-inch thick at it's thinnest. I flared out the ends of my straps, but you lot do you.
Pace five:
Next, stretch out the fabric along ALL your cuts. The edges will roll upwardly and requite you lot a more than finished look without sewing. 🙂 You can pull pretty difficult, merely be gentle on the seams at the neckband. Your top will stretch A LOT, but don't freak out, we'll make it tighter in the side by side footstep.
Stride half-dozen:
Then from the center back, measure down most 2-inches and cut horizontally across the whole back. Cut just to the side seams, and only through the top layer (closest to you). Then cutting this new strip in half. Stretch these out like you did in the last step. Y'all'll use these back straps to tighten the body of your top to your liking. This is why this tutorial volition piece of work with whatever size shirt, you lot tin can simply accommodate the fit with these straps. 🙂
Finally, try it on, tie it upwardly, and you're all done! I'm going to make a few more of these and experiment a piffling with the strap and fringe size. It'southward definitely hot plenty now to take a few these on paw. Happy summer!

1 of the best ways to be responsible with your style choices, in my opinion, is to embrace DIY way and thrifting. It'due south easily the most fun form of recycling, am I right? And I hateful who doesn't similar spending $2 on a shirt??
I knew at that place had to be a use for all those super soft t-shirts that were just too big for me. I besides knew I wanted a kimono, but I knew I could brand 1. Unfortunately I only moved and my sewing automobile is in storage. And so a no-sew, DIY kimono it is!
DIY Kimono Supplies:
- Oversize t-shirt
- 2 yards of material trim (whatsoever kind will practise; tassel, feather, ruffles, any suits your fashion)
- Permanent textile gum
- Fray stopper (if your trim will fray like mine)
- Fabric pencil/marker/chalk
- Fabric pair of scissors
- Ball betoken needle & matching thread (if you want extra reinforcement, totally optional)
If yous have to buy everything, excluding scissors and needles, this will cost about $15. This project will only have yous about an hour (if that), excluding mucilage-drying time.
See that blueish ribbon? Didn't use information technology. It was non ribbon, it was elastic. 🙂 Always read the label, guys, always read the label. But a contrasting ribbon would exist a squeamish impact, don't y'all think?
Lay your shirt out flat, and notice the center. You can marker information technology with your pencil to assist you cut straight, just it doesn't need to be perfect. 🙂
Cut down the entire center, including the collar, on the top layer merely.
You lot'll now have a vest-type deal, and then allow's kimono it instead.
Sketch out a curved neckline (run across below), or you tin just free-hand it like I did. You want to take off the whole collar and leave a nice, smoothen line.
Trim up any jagged edges (it still doesn't have to be perfect). So stretch the fabric forth the cuts. Stretch vertically down the eye, and side to side on the dorsum of the collar. This volition roll up the raw edge for you, no need to hem. Yous've probably seen t-shirts with this unfinished edge before.
Y'all can tug pretty hard for most of it, just be gentle on the superlative shoulder seams or they volition rip. 🙂
Now flip your kimono over to the dorsum and lay your trim on pinnacle of it.
Put fray stopper on the edges if you demand to.
If not, get your permanent textile glue and start running a steady line beneath the height edge of your trim. I used the top stitching of the lesser hem equally a guide. Press the trim downwards gently as you go.
Most good-quality glues will dry clear, and so don't worry too much about whatever testify-through. If yous brand a big mistake, yous can wipe information technology up while information technology'southward still wet with a warm rag.
Allow the glue become tacky for a few minutes. Then, press the trim downward firmly with your fingers along the glue line. Let it all dry flat and undisturbed for the recommended time. Mine stale for near three hours.
Now because I'k paranoid, I also manus stitched my trim in place. A simple running or whip stitch volition do the trick. You tin also only do this instead of gluing. Use brawl signal needles on knits (t-shirt material), so yous don't split the tiny threads that make up the cloth.
You lot don't have to hand sew. Permanent material gum will be washer-rubber in absurd h2o, on the gentle cycle. You practice have to look a few days for the glue to fully cure before washing, just follow the instructions. If y'all program to exercise a lot of embellishing blazon DIYs, I would spend the $3 on mesh laundry numberless so y'all can exist extra-gentle when washing your creations.
That's information technology! I couldn't believe how quick and simple this was, and I was taking pictures of the whole matter. Yous can knock this out in no time and it'southward a bully add-on to your wardrobe. Or a friend's, if you lot need a quick gift. 😉
